The former Marshall pitcher threw six innings against the New Orleans Zephyrs with 5 K’s and a walk to his credit while allowing no runs, improving his minor league record to 5-6. While his time in the Cubs minor league system started off as well as his major league season had went, he finally was able to settle down and pitch a solid game. Straily struggled in the majors early on this season, posting a 4.93 ERA with the Oakland A’s with his last start coming on May 7th. But a change of scenery came when the Cubs acquired him in the Jeff Samardzija, Jason Hammel trade.
Straily has a good chance or rejoining the major league roster if he can put together nights like he did on Thursday.
