DeAndre Kane has had a long journey both literally and figuratively on his way to Las Vegas to join the L.A. Lakers summer league team. From a raw recruit out of Pittsburgh down to Marshall University, the loss of his father, transferring to Iowa State, to Las Vegas as part of the NBA’s summer league, it’s been quite a road on and off the court for Kane.
Now it isn’t about where he’s from or where he’s been, but where he’s going. His numbers have been modest in three summer league games where he’s averaged 4.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2 assists in his 18.7 minutes a game. He’s working to show more of the consistency he showed at Iowa State but if nothing else he’s given us at least a few highlight worthy plays. On one Kane drove to the basket and pull a help defender in with him to clear the way for an easy basket by Trey Thompkins.
While that play got plenty of ooh’s and aah’s from the crowd we’ll have to see if Kane can find his way into the Lakers regular season rotation.
